ALPHA TAURI IS NOW… WHAT?
We have another rebrand this year and this time it is at the hands of Alpha Tauri. Although, this rebrand feels less like a team overhaul but rather as an image overhaul.
I know there have been some crazy names in the mix but this one definitely knocks out of the park. As they have become Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team.
So far the name has not gotten a lot of positive reception and for good reason. I think most sports fans like traditional names and although the new name indicates there will be in a influx of cash I think fans prefer a "normal" name. When I say normal I mean in the sense that it follows a structure of teams being named after car manufacturers or one brand. I think they would have been fine with just one or the other. VISA RB or CashApp RB.
What does this actually mean for the team? Well in terms of aesthetics I think the colors and brand are good. They are very modern and vibrant. As for the actual team? I think they are trying to become more competitive and be recognizable as a sister brand of RedBull. For the drivers this is a good things because at the end of the day they want performance. This new year also adds a new Team Principal in Laurent Mekies who was a former Racing Director for Ferrari.
Last year they began to rack up points and perform very well specially with the resurgence of Daniel Ricciardo and development of Yuki Tsunoda. I believe we can skip the focus on the name and instead focus on getting an exciting livery with beautiful colours that will perform. Even though there will be focus on the top half of the teams, people should be excited for the race of 7th place. A place that Williams, HAAS, Stake, and now VISA Cash App RB will be looking to get their hands on. To then hopefully compete for 6th and 5th with Alpine and Aston Martin being just slightly ahead right now.
